Phillip A. VAGLICA
Phil Vaglica has been a trial lawyer for over 50 years and has been of counsel to the firm for the last 3 years. Phil’s practice encompasses the representation of civil defendants and plaintiffs in Commercial and Business matters and Criminal Defense of Fraud, White Collar Crime, and Racketeering cases. Phil is listed in the Outstanding Lawyers of America, holds an “AV” rating from the Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory and is listed in the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers in the United States. Phil graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with honors in 1970 and from the University of Notre Dame Law School in 1973. From 1973 to 1978 he served as a captain in the United States Army JAGC. Two years before beginning the private practice of law in 1980, Phil was a deputy state public defender. Phil is licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania and Colorado and is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United State Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, the Colorado Supreme Court and the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. Phil is a member of the Faculty of Federal Advocates and the Colorado Bar Association.
During Phil’s years as a trial lawyer, Phil has tried and/or argued numerous jury trials and appeals. A few of his most notable cases include the following:
- Successfully defended a first-degree homicide case in which the FBI destroyed material forensic evidence;
- Successfully defended a defendant in a federal civil rights action which spanned ten years and required three jury trials and four appeals;
- Argued the seminal case involving Colorado’s racketeering statue in the Colorado Supreme Court; and
- Was part of a defense team which successfully defended a regional law firm and its members at a three-week bench trial in which a seven-figure attorney fee award was initially awarded against the State of Colorado.
